Frequently Asked Questions -

What time will my child play on a Saturday?

The times for Saturday games are decided completely by the St George Association, the club does not make this decision as the times of games impact all clubs not just our players. Each year the times of games change and this is dependent on umpires and what age groups and divisions they are playing in. Therefore, times for games can't be promised and you will not find out your time until a few weeks before play.

My child isn't happy with the team they have been placed in. Can I request this to be changed?

In short, no. Once teams have been released we can't have any players moving between teams due to them not liking their grade or not knowing players in the team. The only time a change will be made is if there are extenuating circumstances, and this decision will be approved by the president. We hope that you can support the decision the club makes regarding grading, as many hours are put in to making the teams and this is done by very experienced members of the club. Team sport is an excellent opportunity for players to build on their interpersonal skills and form new friendships. There are many times in a child's life where their friendships in other social groups are not going well however they can rely on their external friendships, quite often this is in the team they are part of.

What is involved in the grading of players?

a) NetSetGo players are not officially 'graded', they are paper graded. The team they are placed in is based on any previous experience and their age.

b) Junior players are graded in a number of ways. If they have previously played with the club we will have coaching feedback from the previous season to read, we also conduct our own grading notes during the previous season of play on each player and finally they are required to attend the compulsory junior grading day. Other considerations are also considered, for a detailed explanation please see our Junior Grading Information document.

c) Senior players are paper graded. The senior player coordinator looks at the previous playing history of each player in the teams and decides what playing level the team is capable of.

When team lists are released why are the grades of each team not also released?

Great question! To ensure a fair system and all clubs are consistent in the grades they allocate the final grading decision is made by a grading committee of the St George Association. The club submits our recommended grade for each team and the committee then review this and either approve the grade or change it. The St George committee have access to all the players/teams playing history and compared this to all the other teams from other clubs. This allows them to put together competitive grades and ensure teams aren't unfairly advantaged or disadvantaged.

My child's team is clearly in wrong grade, what do we do?

As you can imagine the grading of a club let alone an association is quite a lot of work and there are always going to be errors or a wide gap between teams’ ability at times. If you believe there is an issue with the grading of your child's team please speak to your team manager who will email the appropriate club member. We will then speak with the association regarding a review of the grade when time allows.

There has been an incident at the courts on a Saturday, what is the appropriate channel to go through to get it addressed?

You must put your concerns in writing (please use factual language and refrain from emotion where possible) and send this to your coach/manager. They should then pass it on to our club secretary via email sufnc@outlook.com who will then ensure it is managed in the appropriate way, which would most often be brought to St George's attention to be dealt with in a formal process.

There are many uniform items for sale, which uniform pieces do I need?

The only compulsory uniform item is the dress (for girls) and polo (for boys). All other items are optional.

My child has never played netball can they join the club?

We welcome players of all ability from elite level players to those who haven't learnt anything about the sport. Due to being a big club we have the capability of catering to all levels of players and will do our best to make sure they each get the best support possible in developing their skill set whilst enjoying their time.

Is netball just a girl’s sport or can my son play also?

Whilst the sport of netball is traditionally dominated by female players our club is very open and welcoming of both male and female players. We would love to increase the participation of male players with the club and would assist wherever possible to allow for this. If your son is turning 12 years or younger he would play in the junior competition as all our female players do. Where he is turning 13 years or older please contact club secretary via email sufnc@outlook.com and we will endeavour to provide a playing pathway for him in the club.

What if it's raining on Saturday? Will my game be cancelled?

A decision regarding the cancellation of games is made by St George 1 hour before the commencement of each time slot. Please refer to our St George website, SUFNC website or our Facebook page for any updates regarding wet weather.
